Summer Break - Blank Slate

Recently, I have taken some time away from blogging and my computer in general, but summer is here and I have so many exciting projects that I want to talk about, I felt compeled to start it up again. First of all, I'm back in my wonderful home town, Seattle. My mom just moved so I'm staying at my Dad's house. But the last time I decorated my room there I was about 13 and very into Blue. So over the past couple weeks my dad, Chris and I have been repainting, reflooring, and and all around fixing up my new space. Its not quite done yet. unfortunately I forgot to take before pictures, but here are some taken during the very rough first stages. there was A LOT of prep-work, patching, and "cocking" before we could even paint...

SOOORRRRY

I've been slaking and i will be slaking for the next three weeks. We're moving out! getting rid off all of out stuff and packing into the prius. We're leaving next wensday the 7th. its been soooo very stressful. Chris has three 15 page papers to write so i'm basically left with the job of cleaning out the house. some how we have soooo much stuff. where did it all come from? well I'll try to write on the road. there are actually a lot of wi fi hot spots at rest areas.... but i probably wont really get the chance to make anything interesting. But when i get home i swear i'll make some awesome posts. My mom is moving so i get a new room to decorate, and my room at my dad's house suuuucccckkkkks. so there will be lot of fun summer project in the near future. i swear.

New Purse

I finally finished my purse! I got the pattern from jCaroline Creative online. I'm quite proud on my little creation!

On the Road Again!

I've just started getting ready for our big road trip. Chris and I will be leaving in about 2 weeks! its crazy this year has gone so fast. This past weekend we put all out stuff on Craig's list and we thought it would take a while to sell but our place is almost empty! We're going to take the LONG way home. were going down through the south. I really wanted to see Savannah. Then straight through Texas, and up the California coast. I can't wait to see Big Sur and the redwoods. We're planning on taking about 2 weeks. my little Prius is going to be stuffed with all out stuff. I'm looking forward to the trip and getting back home to Seattle.

BANANA BREAD

In the recent weeks I've become obsessed with banana bread. I LOVE IT. I've tried a couple of recipes and I've come up with this recipe based off of a recipe I found on the food network web site courtesy of Cathy Lowe.

2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
4 very ripe bananas
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup Walnut oil or almond oil (i found that is gave it a nice rich flaor, but you can use veggie oil too)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Optional 1 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl combine flour, baking soda and powder, salt. In a large bowl cream together eggs and sugar. Stir in mashed bananas, vanilla, oil and cinnamon. Stir in flour mixture, a third at a time, until just combined. Bake for about 1 hour.

A slice toasted with peanut butter and a latte or glass of milk!!!! heaven

Retro Dress

I can wear the belt with other outfits, and the pockets at pretty sweet.

So I've been working on this dress that I started in sewing class. I just finished it. I found the pattern in a pile of really old patterns that the sewing school had collected over the years. I came across this little gem and happily it was my size. I got my fabric at walmart and paid a grand total of $4. The collar is a little big, so i'm still working on tailoring it to fit me just right, but its basically done!

Please ignore the double chin and the awkward angle. I had to take the picture myself. I wish I looked as suave as this bizzy. I love her crazy fur hat!

Compartment

In the future when I have money and need a storage unit I will buy this RAKKE Ikea wardrobe for $349. I'll paint all the doors different colors... Its just so simple and clean. One day....

Party!

Retail Therapy

After a stressful day at work I made an unscheduled stop at target.... I know, thats probably not the best idea, especially for a gal who can barely pay her rent, but I spent a grand total of $22. And for those $22 I got two pairs of shoes, two red wire baskets, a spray bottle (for our new cactus named Helsico) a tin bucket, and a rectangular tin that I'm going to use as a herb planter. everything was on sale or in the $1 section. I got some white canvas vans-like slip ons and some silly red jellies (that were about $4!). I think it was the most budget friendly unnecessary shopping spree I've ever committed.

PS sorry the picture is sooo lame. I took it on my bed while I was in it... I'm feeling quite lazy.

little bag

I took a shot at making a little zippered pouch. I used some left over fabric and a funk yellow zipper. I think it turn out ok, a little messed up but ok~

Sunday

It was a beautiful Sunday. It felt quite spring like. It was almost hot in the sun. I made yummy waffles with bananas, yogurt and walnuts. after breakfast I opened all the windows and did my spring cleaning! which is cause for excitement if your an OCD freak like me. I cleaned out my closet. I know it doesn't look organized but it is. then in the latter afternoon when I was all done Chris and I went to the wood star cafe and had a little snack/lunch. we stopped in at the book store and I picked up Pride and Prejudice, something I've always meant to read, and the Diving bell and the Butterfly. Chris and I saw the movie version last night and it was wonderful and very beautiful so I thought I should read the book. It's about a man who has a massive stroke and is totally parallelized but he is metal conscious. He communicates by blinking his eye. the entire book was dictated by him through blinking his eye. its an amazing/wonderful true story. But I digress. Then I made a tasty beef sir fry and we watched Micheal Clayton on DVD, another great movie to end the weekend. Chris got me some daffodils

Reorganization

BEFORE....

AFTER....

The other weekend I rearranged our living room. I'm still not done, but i'm close. I basically moved the futon couch to the other side of the room. I still need to mount our old French map. We found it in a dumpster at Smith college, its beautiful and aged, its one of my favorite finds. my craft corner is a mess! I NEED to do some serious spring cleaning. Since we are leaving in May (going back home to Seattle! we going to road trip back through the south and up the California coast... but i digress) I need to start selling things and giving junk away to the good ol' salvation army. I'll be listing the furniture I don't care about on craig's list, like the mattress. but there are a few things I want to hold on to. like my favorite bizarre love seat that some day I will have reupholster. I can't believe I'll be leaving this place so soon. I'll be going back to the good old Barnard in the fall.... oh the time dose fly.

what time is it?

check out my sweet yoshito nara clock. my mom had it around the house and sent it to me along with some other silly stuff. her version of a care package is hilarious. I recognize most the stuff from around the house; it's like she walked around the house and threw stuff in a box and sent it to me. Last year at school she sent me a 3 ft. tall replica of the hammering man (Seattle landmark, outside the seattle art museum) I love her qurky gifts, love you ma!
have a super weekend.

Craft Corner

My nook is finally complete! I have wanted a little space to make things ever sense we moved in. As I type I am cozy at my little desk surrounded by my craft stuff. I just repainted the desk white and spray painted the handle silver. I also put my small ironing board on a table pedestal I found on the sidewalk. It's all quite cute if i do say so myself.

Look what I made!

I made a shirt/dress in sewing class. Its a little big. and very green. (whats with all the green? everything I make seems to be green lately). this picture don't really do it justice. It's my first project in a while so it not to bad. I can use it as a cover-up at the beach this summer. I want summer soooo bad......

Another Green Chair

I think I've gone a little green crazy. I found this chair by the side of the road and thought it would make a good upholstery project. plus be a good chair for my craft nook. So i unscrewed the cushions and using a staple gun and some fabric from joAnn's I reupholstered the seat and the backrest. then I spray painted the frame silver, which turned out to be very metalic. then put it all back together and I realized I have make another green chair.

Heaven is a Place on Earth!

I've come home! This weekend I was looking for a desk for my long awaited craft nook. And i stumbled upon the Holyoke Flea Market. Its Huge! Imagine a very large warehouse stuffed with about 500 vender's selling literally everything. It was wonderful! I've been looking for a good flea market since we moved out here and I have finally found one. I was also successful in finding a desk for only $30. I think I could have paid $20 but i'm a horrible haggler. the guy realized this and i think he felt a little bad so he threw in a free chair (which I don't want or need but it was nice anyway). The desk needs a coat of paint and is a little beat up but its perfect.

Sorry the picture is a little out of focus.
