Reorganization

BEFORE....

AFTER....

The other weekend I rearranged our living room. I'm still not done, but i'm close. I basically moved the futon couch to the other side of the room. I still need to mount our old French map. We found it in a dumpster at Smith college, its beautiful and aged, its one of my favorite finds. my craft corner is a mess! I NEED to do some serious spring cleaning. Since we are leaving in May (going back home to Seattle! we going to road trip back through the south and up the California coast... but i digress) I need to start selling things and giving junk away to the good ol' salvation army. I'll be listing the furniture I don't care about on craig's list, like the mattress. but there are a few things I want to hold on to. like my favorite bizarre love seat that some day I will have reupholster. I can't believe I'll be leaving this place so soon. I'll be going back to the good old Barnard in the fall.... oh the time dose fly.

what time is it?

check out my sweet yoshito nara clock. my mom had it around the house and sent it to me along with some other silly stuff. her version of a care package is hilarious. I recognize most the stuff from around the house; it's like she walked around the house and threw stuff in a box and sent it to me. Last year at school she sent me a 3 ft. tall replica of the hammering man (Seattle landmark, outside the seattle art museum) I love her qurky gifts, love you ma!
have a super weekend.

Craft Corner

My nook is finally complete! I have wanted a little space to make things ever sense we moved in. As I type I am cozy at my little desk surrounded by my craft stuff. I just repainted the desk white and spray painted the handle silver. I also put my small ironing board on a table pedestal I found on the sidewalk. It's all quite cute if i do say so myself.

Look what I made!

I made a shirt/dress in sewing class. Its a little big. and very green. (whats with all the green? everything I make seems to be green lately). this picture don't really do it justice. It's my first project in a while so it not to bad. I can use it as a cover-up at the beach this summer. I want summer soooo bad......

Another Green Chair

I think I've gone a little green crazy. I found this chair by the side of the road and thought it would make a good upholstery project. plus be a good chair for my craft nook. So i unscrewed the cushions and using a staple gun and some fabric from joAnn's I reupholstered the seat and the backrest. then I spray painted the frame silver, which turned out to be very metalic. then put it all back together and I realized I have make another green chair.

Heaven is a Place on Earth!

I've come home! This weekend I was looking for a desk for my long awaited craft nook. And i stumbled upon the Holyoke Flea Market. Its Huge! Imagine a very large warehouse stuffed with about 500 vender's selling literally everything. It was wonderful! I've been looking for a good flea market since we moved out here and I have finally found one. I was also successful in finding a desk for only $30. I think I could have paid $20 but i'm a horrible haggler. the guy realized this and i think he felt a little bad so he threw in a free chair (which I don't want or need but it was nice anyway). The desk needs a coat of paint and is a little beat up but its perfect.

Sorry the picture is a little out of focus.

Junk jewelry by the box with white dogs

Old Typewriter with a very cool horizontal filing cabinet that looks like it was use to store scientific supplies or botany samples.

Apartment building mail boxes. I really wanted this but it wasn't cheap at $150

One of three walls covered in dried flower bouquets

Chair Makeover Part du

So I finally did it. the color is a Nickelodeon-slime-green. I cleaned up the melt frame with WD-40 and steel wool* awesome at cleaning up rust. Its a little green.. but I can dig it

Bathroom...

well I did my best. considering its a shitty/old/gross/poorly maintained bathroom. I re-painted the chipping white walls and a portion of the bathtub. I pull in a new towel rack that can actually accommodate a towel! new medicine cabinet. I don't even what to show you the old rusted one. I felt like I needed a tetanus shot every time I brushed my teeth. I got new shower curtains, hooks, a bath mat, and the storage containers from target for under $30 total. the pipes under the sink are still exposed and the toilet seat is off white, which kills me! but its livable. Check it out BEFORE!

4 freakin years....

So this past Monday my boyfriend Chris and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary. holy shit. I know. its crazy. We both had work/school so we had breakfast in bed and he made me a lovely dinner. After dinner we exchanged gifts and he bought me the set of porcelain keys from the Curiosity Shop. they are so delicate and beautiful in person, I love them. I'm going to display them in one of those box like frames. I got him a Tin Tin glass and a framed Tin Tin print (hes into Tin Tin).

Felt

I came across this very cute set of felt nesting bowls as I was browsing Esty. they are made by projectfelt. I read her profile and she seems very cute. She makes a whole bunch of sweet little felted object. I was quite inspire. so i think i'm doing to try to make my own bowls. we shall see how they turn out...

The Plumbing...

all weekend I've been working on my bathroom. Its not done yet but i thought I'd post some before shots. Since i'm not allowed to paint it i thought I'd embrace the light blue and follow in the foot steps of Nicole for Making it Lovely! my all time favorite blog.

Shopping Spree

The other day as I was flipping through a magazine I discovered Vera Wang’s new affordable line, Simply Vera, that she is releasing at Kohl’s (god know why she choose Kohl's). There were some very cute dresses paired with funky accessories (wow I sound like such a dork). I went online and got a couple of cardigans, her pencil shirt, and a few tops. I went a little crazy, but it’s so cheap, why not?

New Favorite Website

The other day I stumbled upon a wonderful website, The Curiosity shop. The brain child of Lauren Smith and Derek Fagerstrom, the pair set out to make a store full of beautiful things. In addition to the online store they recently opened a shop in San Francisco.

They carry everything from craft do-it-yourself kits to unique stationary. Its the perfect place to find a unique gift. And I was shocked by there very reasonable prices. I almost went hog wild but stopped myself before I spent my rent money.

But I do have my eye on this beautiful set of porcelain keys for only $40. I was thinking about mounting then in a
wooden display case and hanging then by the front door near our key jar to reminded me not to forget my keys! you can also check out their blog at http://www.smartsandcrafts.com/

Chair gone wrong...

Well I tried some random/cheap spray paint on my chair but of course it didn't adhere to the plastic.... it basically just dripped off. but while i was at the hardware store i saw a spray paint line dedicated to plastic surfaces. so i'll have to go back and try it again. I've been in florida over the weekend plus the fact that i've been really lazy so hopefully i'll get the project done by next week.
